Prince of Light ha? Its kinda cool…
I just wanna color our precious quincy <3
Color : me / Panel : Bleach 537 - Tite Kubo
IshiHime the Best!
This is Ishida, remember? The guy who’s always prepared, who plans ahead, who actually has a spare cape in case of emergencies. This is the guy who forgave a shinigami for running him through with his sword, and remained friends with him. So why the fuck would Kubo write him as a traitor and…
THANK YOU!
I have a hard time believing that people who have been reading Bleach for years, who have seen Ishida come through for his friends over and over, who watched him lose a limb on the Dome and keep fighting with his off-hand, who watched him walk up to a blood-thirsty monster and take it by the hand because he knew his friend was somewhere under that mask and that friend would never forgive himself for what he was about to do, that these same readers now somehow think that Uryuu would really honestly betray these same friends and his grandfather’s teaching for… what exactly?
Bleach readers, if you think Uryuu is truly a traitor, please engage your brains before you embarrass yourselves further.
Yes, we’ve just seen Uryuu welcomed into the ranks of the Vandenreich. By the guy who killed his mother.
At this point I’m not going to debate whether he’s actually been brainwashed/re-educated, is playing the double agent in order to learn their weaknesses for Urahara, or is pretending to join them in order to effect his own vengeance for his mother’s death. Any of those options is 100% more likely than Ishida being an out-and-out traitor.
That is all. For now.
honestly this just reinforces what I’ve long, long felt and wanted to post about
That’s it’s such a HUGE SHAME that Ichigo and Uryuu weren’t friends as kids.
Think about it. Both of them probably suffered because they could see ghosts/Hollows and had no one else their age with…
MUST. DRAW. THIS.
Even if my art is awful as shit.

OKAY WAIT A FUCKING MINUTE
THEY BOTH HAD HAPPY FAMILIES FOR EIGHT YEARS
WHY WEREN’T THEY FRIENDS
The way events resolved themselves likely made the prospect of a relationship between the couples/families too awkward.
Ryuuken surely had regrets for not stepping in and saving Masaki from the Hollow bite, and then there’s the whole “what could have been aspect” that isn’t real conducive to lively dinner conversation. Plus, Masaki’s infection & departure represented a huge blow to the Ishida clan; one they probably didn’t want to be reminded of.
Masaki went off to uni, started dating Isshin, and they made their own life for themselves. Small clinic doctor and Karakura General surgeon/president probably moved in different circles too.
I do wonder though just when Ryuuken gave up the Quincy stuff. Now that we know Katagiri was frail, I doubt he’d have let her go out and “sortie” even if a Shinigami got killed. And if Ryuuken ever went out to take care of Hollows I wonder if he ever ran into Masaki? You know she probably would have waved at him.
We still don’t know the whole story of what happened to the Ishidas so maybe there’s more to tell, but just given what we know, and with Ryuuken being Ryuuken, it was probably easier for everyone to just live their own lives.
Ahhhh, all good points. While it’s sad to think of Ryuuken maintaining absolutely no contact (last Quincy! friendly enough!), he did kick her out in order to “definitively part” with her. Awkward dinnertime conversation indeed.
I do wonder just what Katagiri’s condition was, and for how long. Plus, we don’t know how Ryuuken’s mother died and under what circumstances. Just what caused his animosity toward Souken? It could easily be his failure to be there, but he seems to have his distaste for the Quincy and then a separate disdain for Souken… but that may be reading too much into it, and it may be a culmination of never being there + Souken pushing the Quincy stuff onto his son while knowing Ryuuken opposed it. That’d be more than enough for “that old man.”
Still, it’s such a shame ):
Ishida-kun...if you ever change your mind, tell me any time, okay? I'll be waiting for you.
❝I’m heading out.❞
❝Join your brother in arms, my son.❞
yes this guy definitely turned on everybody to sincerely join the nazi quincy
So~ does anyone think that Ishida Uryuu is pulling an Itachi (or a Gin, either way) on us?
Before letting you answer, I shall first indicate reasons why and why not Uryuu could be double-crossing the Vandenreich.

Reasons Why

1 - Tite Kubo enjoys giving us plot-twists which he thinks…
I think there are two points in the “why not” category that I’d disagree with—
Uryuu hasn’t sincerely hated the Shinigami since the beginning. Yes, he treated them as enemies, with killing intent and handicapping, and yes, I do think he might still have mixed feelings there… but aside from Mayuri and those who worked with them, he knows they’re not all bad. He’s worked alongside them on various things, whether borrowing sewing equipment from the 4th division, or fighting with Rukia and Renji. Unless he was made to believe that THEY were the ones responsible for his mother and other things, saying “Uryuu hates Shinigami” doesn’t actually work.
As for Ichigo and Uryuu being rivals, they really… aren’t! It’s funny, because people tend to default assume that, but they’ve never had that Naruto-Sasuke thing going on. They competed only once — when Uryuu was first introduced and being a dumb-ass. Yes, I do think Uryuu likes to show off in front of him. Yes, he wanted Ichigo to see how strong he’d become, and likes to still say they’re enemies, et cetera. But we have not actually EVER seen either one compare themselves to the other. Uryuu has not expressed a need to be BETTER than Ichigo since the beginning. To be stronger than, to compete with him, to actually be a rival. Instead, he’s supported him in his own way, and played lip service to that role in a way that Orihime laughs and easily sees through. That lack of true comparison saved him in some ways, I think, from the Orihime+Chad category they’ve been lumped into, and also their angst about being left behind and not enough. He’s never worried about being ENOUGH for Ichigo, he’s always been an equal even without equal power.
THAT SAID, given ambiguity thusfar and the fact he HAS wanted recognition, I could see him wanting to show off new power. Especially if there’s some brainwashing involved, because I agree — I honestly cannot see Yhwach/Bach BELIEVING that Uryuu’s totally turned without something significant. Yhwach isn’t stupid and has doubtless done his research. Uryuu’s track record speaks for itself.
(ETA: and oh yeah the beginning of this arc set up an obvious Ichigo-Ishida confrontation and doubt as to whether or not they’re really friends, so there’s that.)
I’m just hoping that Urahara, Ryuuken, or Uryuu himself had a method to resist it that will either kick in now or later.
