“I want to be someone that can protect everyone.”
I actually really like this. Just kind of the standing toe-to-toe and the sense of a history of shared understanding of past misfortunes. /SAP…
That’s Mukuro Rokudo!
Negative. My name is Chrome.
a moment of silence please for MM’s fruit parfait
I like to think, off-screen, she and Mukuro have riveting conversations about how superior they are to all those other plebes around them, i.e. … the rest of the world.
lbr they also just eat a shitton of dessert
they’re gonna be huge in a few years
deneblue:
You’re more than entitled to them. I’m not always going to agree with yours, you won’t always agree to mine. That’s okay.
But, a friendly reminder specifically to the Fairy Tail community: Jerza is not canon. NaLu isn’t canon. GaLe isn’t canon. Gruvia isn’t canon.
Are they heavily hinted at? Sure.
But the only canon relationships are Bisca and Alzack, and Ren and Sherry. Please stop saying others are canon when they aren’t, you’re just gonna confuse people (or worse, delude yourself).
Thanks!
This logic can be applied toanyfandom, really. Naruto fandom, I’m especially looking at you.
-stares at KHR fandom-
on the KHR side of things —
Man, I dislike the way that the word “canon” is thrown around in a policing, restrictive way in the fandom. That said!
Maybe this is just because I come from an English/liberal arts/analysis background and I discuss narratives-as-narratives a lot (I’m not kidding when I say close readings constituted the last four years of my life!), but I don’t mind like, discussing ships as projected-canon? I mean, that is to say, I’m not going to pretend that I think Amano doesn’t intend Tsuna/Kyoko or Gamma/Uni (squints…) or Mukuro/Chrome as ships! because I think she does. and I’m not going to argue that they’re “siblings” BECAUSE NO I HONESTLY THINK THAT’S A LOAD OF CRAP/a basic misreading of authorial intent, and when I see fandom doing that, I guess I get a little nerd ragey (because even if you dislike a ship, saying TSUNA SEES KYOKO AS A SISTER is like — no, it’s just wrong!!)
… but, AHEM, that doesn’t mean I agree with the way “canon” is thrown around in this bad and policing manner in fandom? Because regardless of authorial intent, you can ship anything you want. Tsuna’s canon-liking of Kyoko doesn’t mean he can’t be paired with Yamamoto in ‘fic, etc.
I THINK FOR ME, as someone who actually likes to talk about what I genuinely believe to be like… story arcs or writing in the series or whatever — and yes, sometimes that includes what I believe to be romantic plots, whether I like the ship or not! — I feel there’s a non-evil way to talk about these things, but I do agree it’s also used evilly 99% of the time in fandom, so hnngh.
(I think I’m just having come at it from too many of the bogus SOING-SO ARE IN A SIBLING RELATIONSHIP!!11 angles that I get a bit of kneejerk NO IT’S OKAY TO ADMIT THEIR NARRATIVE IS PROBABLY FUCKING ROMANTIC? it’s not like Amano ever commits to showing any of her suggested-pairs as like, full-on holding hands and kissing cutely pairs or whatever — even when it’s relatively obvious that one half likes another half and the other half reciprocates, she always shies away from making it fully 100% explicit, every single time, so fans do have some outs… )
tumblr formatting die.
but BASICALLY THIS brofist of over-analytical English background, and applying this coherent opinion to all fandoms. It gets tricky when you have a seeming love triangle where two sides each believe their pairing of choice is absolutely the authorial intent, the projected-canon… but that’s another argument/debate, I think.
(blahblah looks especially at Naruto and Bleach fandoms here, luckily I think KHR has been spared that, though lol at siblings arguments in any fandom, especially without sufficient evidence — like uh have you seen how x acts with a sibling and if not where are you getting this?)
So, I randomly had a desire to revisit some of the old predictions I made about KHR during the time when Chrome had “~*~Some Mysterious Illness~*~” to see how my bets lined up. This whole conversation is kind of ironic to me.
Predicted right: Thinking of the page where Reborn asks Chrome…
i love you and this
and oddly it makes me both want to try playing him again, and a little nervous of it, because —
hm, how to phrase it… he’s spent so much time being deliberately ambiguous and projecting a very particular kind of front, and while there have been numerous signs before this point that said front was just that, this arc has especially ripped back the curtains and shown the man behind the illusion. While it has always been a bit of a challenge for me when it comes to internal thoughts and introspection with him, due to a sense of possible dishonesty or carrying of the shroud/mystery even that far, all this helps, but also makes it more challenging.
IF THAT EVEN MAKES ANY SENSE IDK flips tables on the moe that is mukuro
anyway yes i do adore your predictions, it’s such fun when things develop as conjectured (not in a predictable way, so much as ah I was right!), and also when there’s a delightful surprise such as moekuro’s faith in Chrome. As much as fandom either crowed or worried at Moekuro’s seeming abandonment of her, in fact… well ;)
your tumblr layout is pretty, wow. how did you even do that.
but yeah, you know. that’s the thing. i admit, when all this happened, i at first was like. “wow, i’m SO happy for all this character development for mukuro. but can he still be ficced/rped as… ambiguous? i mean wasn’t the ambiguity kind of the fun of the character?” and i had a slight mixed feeling crisis.
but i think at the end of the day, it’s like. what did this arc really change about mukuro? to non-kokuyo people, he’s still jerkish-acting and a little ambiguous. he still snarked at tsuna recently. his exact motives for doing what he does will still perplex most people (probably). i mean, he’s obviously Not a Real Villain anymore, but he was only a Real Villain for like five seconds way back in the beginning, so i don’t think anything has changed in a way that would ruin RPing him.
well, i mean, obviously, i think this arc shows that he and chrome always understood each other’s feelings much better than a lot of fandom depicted them (chrome with the WAI WAI I AM OF NO USE TO MUKURO-SAMA stuff in fandom), but i don’t think that’s a Change. i think they just really deeply Get one another and now we just finally see exactly how they relate to one another. so I think he’s still 100% ambiguous-potential RPable.
#AMBER HAS SO MANY FEELINGS ABOUT KIDS’ MANGA. HEAD IN HANDS.
MAGIC /tosses confetti … no a lot of trial and error and pretending I knew what I was doing in the customize thinger. I need to resize and screw with the bg, because a good chunk of it doesn’t show on most resolutions, I think…
ah yes, in fic as well, YOUR BEAUTIFUL FIC (and my need to write anything at all, geeze). Good point, though — to non Kokuyo, he’s still behaving in much the same way. I’d really love to see more of him one on one with them. We have some, of course, with antics with Verde and Fran and given how ridiculous everyone in KHR is as a rule, it likely being safe to assume canon dynamics from those extra omake things (where Mukuro’s getting fat or pineapple hijinx). …so ok maybe one on one with Chrome. »
Also, I’d love insight into those possibly perplexing motives! There’s plenty that can be inferred and I suppose that would further tear at the mystery, but I mean his actual intent below whatever he says. Although he clearly no longer *really* has bad intentions toward Tsuna, he’ll doubtless keep claiming a desire for his body and to defeat him, and to what end? He doubtless must still hate the mafia, but is he still willing and wanting to massacre entire families? Er, the problem of incarceration aside. If not, what does he want to do, and what would he then intend to do in various RP environments? Beyond lounging on couches, sipping chocolate shakes, cheating at Nintendo DS. Obv the uncertainty could help re: ambiguous RP, but there’s only so far you can take not knowing yourself as a mun.
Yes, though- he is still Mist, isn’t he? Even if we’re given this extra heaping of insight as to just how much he cares for his own, that hasn’t changed. With mist comes ambiguity. He’s just grown up and able to admit to himself (and show) how much he cares single tear.
Agreed. AGREED AND AMUSED BECAUSE HAHA FUTURE MUKURO claiming she (and Tsuna) misunderstood, when of course, the joke was and is that she (and he, with his noted intuition) understood better than anyone, at times probably better than himself. Fandom, from the little I’ve seen, just prefers Mukuro as the cold, people-as-tools using villain, and thus must undermine Chrome and reduce her in support of that. ugh i love their relationship, ugh, the … i don’t want to say it again because i think i have sorely overused it, but the “ambiguity” of it, while it is also so clear cries
YOUR FEELINGS INSPIRE ME AND MAKE ME FEEL BETTER ABOUT MY OWN

Like, seriously.
Or if you don’t want to catch up on KHR, at least read this chapter.
Or if you don’t want to read this chapter, at least read the last two pages. Because they’re beautiful.
…Where’s the fucking Mean Girls “I just have a lot of feelings” gif when you need it.^THIS
EVERYTHING. Ugh, “I will teach you”… sudden feelings for Tsuna exploding everywhere, perfection.
God, he can be really cute sometimes.
Mukuro has become so moe, that he is actually quoting Kaoru Miki.’

Kaoru Miki.

You cannot get anymore moe than Kaoru Miki.

You can’t.
oh no i’m loving these.
